List of Solid Foods

  1. Brown Rice

Brown rice is probably one of the best options if you want to eat something filling and nutritious. A serving size of brown rice provides about 200-250 calories, along with plenty of fiber and protein. Since brown rice is high in iron, zinc, and manganese, it helps to build strong blood cells and keep bones healthy.

  1. Beans

Beans are great additions to any meal because they are full of nutrition. One cup of cooked beans contains around 260 calories, 8 grams of protein, and 18 grams of fiber. Eating beans regularly keeps you lean since they are low in fat and help stave off hunger pangs.

  1. Whole Grain Bread

Bread is a staple food item, and whole grain bread is healthier than refined grains. A slice of white bread only has 110 calories while a slice of whole wheat bread has 120 calories. Whole grain bread contains higher amounts of vitamins B and E, and folate, and lower levels of trans fats and sodium than its refined counterparts.

  1. Salmon

Salmon is considered to be one of the healthiest fish out there. A single salmon fillet contains just over 100 calories, 4 grams of protein, and 11 grams of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids have been known to fight inflammation, boost brain function, improve heart health, and even reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease. Oily fish like salmon are also loaded with vitamin D, which studies show lowers the risk of several types of cancer, including breast cancer.

  1. Dark Chocolate

Dark chocolate is rich in antioxidants, which may reduce the risk of cardiovascular problems and cancer. People who eat dark chocolate tend to weigh less than those who don’t consume it at all. Also, dark chocolate boosts mood and reduces physical pain.

  1. Eggs

Eggs are versatile little foods; they can be eaten for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or dessert. They’re great sources of protein, which promotes muscle growth and prevents fatigue. Egg yolks are packed with choline, an essential nutrient that aids brain functioning and memory formation. Egg whites, however, still pack lots of protein and are a good source of dietary cholesterol.

  1. Olive Oil

Olive oil is a fantastic cooking option that is also used medicinally to treat conditions ranging from asthma to arthritis. Olive oil contains monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats that are good for your heart, and olive oil has a number of other health benefits.

Baking Soda (Bentonite Clay)

Baking soda is an effective natural fertilizer that provides the plant with beneficial trace elements, assists in absorbing nutrients, and aids the plant’s overall health. You should use baking soda at different points throughout the vegetative cycle.

If applied early, before the first set of true leaves have formed, it will assist the plant in establishing its root system. If applied after flowering, it will help maintain bud quality and promote new growth. Use two teaspoons per gallon or bucket of water.

Molasses

Molasses is rich in vitamins and minerals including iron, zinc, magnesium, manganese, copper, phosphorous, potassium, along with many others. Molasses contains a high level of sucrose, making it a perfect food for the cannabis plant.

There are three types of molasses – blackstrap molasses, demerara molasses, and white cane molasses. All three have their own unique flavor profile, but they are all equally valuable. Blackstrap molasses is darker in color than the other two types and is best for cooking due to its higher sugar content.

Demerara molasses is lighter in color and sweeter than both blackstrap molasses and white cane molasses; however, it has a lower sucrose content. White cane molasses is also known as treacle or golden syrup. It is a clear molasses with a low sucrose content. A good rule of thumb is that the darker the molasses, the higher the concentration of antioxidants.

Rock Salt

Rock salt is a naturally occurring mineral that is mined from underground mines. Once extracted, it is then refined to remove impurities and dried to extract pure chloride. Rock salt is often used as a supplement to soil-based agriculture systems. Rock salt is not as popular in cannabis cultivation as some people believe.

However, it does provide many benefits, including increased yields, improved overall product quality, and stronger stems. It is available in many forms, including fine grain, coarse grain, and flake. When properly applied, rock salt absorbs moisture, increases the aeration of soil, and minimizes compaction. It should always be applied prior to planting, but if done correctly, it will continue to improve the soil structure long after harvest.

Chicken Manure

Chicken manure contains the same nutrients as human urine, including nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, silicon, sulfur, calcium, and magnesium. In fact, chicken manure is actually superior to human urine in several ways.

Because chickens produce approximately five times as much feces daily as humans do, they are able to continually replenish their supply of nitrogen, thereby ensuring that your crops receive plenty of this nutrient.

Also, chickens produce manure without any additives or chemicals, unlike human urine. To apply, spread 1 tablespoon of dry manure per square foot, or 5 pounds per 100 square feet.

Worm Castings

Worm castings contain high levels of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Worm castings can be purchased online or from local pet stores. Just make sure to purchase them fresh and avoid those that have been sitting around for an extended period of time. Apply worm castings directly where you want them to go, and keep doing so until the plant begins to overgrow those spots. The worms will migrate to those locations.

Depending on how big your garden is, you may need to apply anywhere between 8 ounces and 2 pounds of castings per square yard.

Coffee Grounds

Coffee grounds are high in nitrogen and contain other essentials like potassium, magnesium, calcium, and sodium. The best method of application is to fill your coffee grinder with freshly ground beans and grind as much as possible. Then, pour the coffee grounds through the holes of the filter basket until your coffee maker spouts out its last drop.

Afterward, empty the ground coffee through a sieve or strainer to catch the remaining grounds. Spread the coffee grounds evenly across the surface of the potting mix. Be careful not to get too much coffee on top of the seedlings or else you’ll burn them with the excess caffeine.

Fish Emulsion

Fish emulsions are a great way to add protein and other micronutrients to your soil or container mixture. Fish emulsion is simply fish blood mixed with water and oil. Most of the extra fats dissolve away leaving just the red blood cells behind.

These cells are rich in iron and other nutrients. Keep in mind that fish emulsion must be stored in the refrigerator. Make sure to label the container clearly and only use what you intend to use within a specific amount of time. You can find fish emulsion at pet stores and aquarium centers.
